Home Build: Fulfilling the Dream of a Safe Haven

Imagine being only three years old—or nineteen—and carrying the weight of losing your parents, sometimes just months ago to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now picture 30 children, each with a unique background, all bound by the common longing for a home and a family. They currently live in two small rooms on the outskirts of Kampala—one for boys, another for girls—forced to share a handful of beds or sleep on the floor. This is not the childhood they deserve.

Despite overwhelming challenges, we believe every child deserves security, education, and love. From the moment we first met these kids, we’ve been determined to give them a place they can truly call home. And now, with your help, we’re taking a monumental step forward.

A Vision Beyond Four Walls

Our dream extends beyond constructing a mere building. We have just over 3 acres of fertile land, already sprouting a small farm with fruit trees, crops, and landscaping. This project is about creating a sanctuary—for both the children and the local community.

  • A Safe and Secure Home:
  • Separate, comfortable living quarters so boys and girls each have their own space.
  • Enough beds for every child, granting them the dignity of restful sleep.
  • Rooms designed to nurture a sense of belonging and emotional well-being.
  • A Haven for the Community:
  • We plan to employ local caregivers, farmers, and support staff, creating jobs and fostering economic growth.
  • The land will blossom with flowers, orchards, and demonstrate sustainable farming—an inspiring model for neighbors near and far.
  • Education and Opportunities:
  • We want our children not just to survive, but to thrive. Proper study spaces, mentoring, and life skills programs will help them build a brighter future.
  • As the project grows, we hope to open a school or vocational center to empower even more youths.
  • Sustainability and Abundance:
  • The farm will supply fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring nutritious meals for the children.
  • Surplus produce can support local families, forging a stronger sense of community.

Progress So Far

Foundation and Walls: We’ve already poured the foundation, and in June, a volunteer team joined us to build the walls.

Funding for the Roof: We’re thrilled to share that we’ve just received funding for the next big milestone: the roof.

Five Stages of Construction: Because we don’t have all the funding upfront, we’re building in five stages, completing each section as resources become available. This approach ensures we maintain quality while steadily moving forward.

Our Funding Goal: $300,000

This comprehensive budget covers:

  • Land and Construction: Materials, labor, and essential infrastructure.
  • Farm Development: Planting costs, agricultural tools, and landscaping.
  • Staffing: Fair wages for caregivers, security, and farm workers who devote themselves to helping these children thrive.

Together, these elements will create not just a structure, but a nurturing home—one where children feel safe, loved, and empowered to chase their dreams.
